Annotated Bibliography

Introduction

An annotated bibliography is a list of cited sources about a particular topic, in which each citation is  followed by a brief paragraph that discusses aspects of the source. An annotated bibliography is useful  for documenting your research in a specific area, exploring varying viewpoints, and summarizing main  points from different sources.

Instructions

For this assignment you will annotate a total of 12 sources. Your sources should be focused on the topic of your RISE grant or on a related topic. The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to conduct research that you can you to develop your RISE proposal.  

Format

Citation

Your citations should be in MLA format.   Sample Journal Citation in MLA format:

Gilbert, Pam. “From Voice to Text: Reconsidering Writing and Reading in the English Classroom.’ English  Education, vol. 23, no.    4, 1991, pp. 195-211.

Annotation

The annotation is a brief paragraph following the citation.  Your  annotations should do some of the following:
– describe the content of the source
– describe the usefulness of the source
– describe the intended audience
– evaluate the credibility of the source
– discuss the writer’s background
– describe your reaction

For our assignment, your annotations should be  150 words in length. You may use first person.  

Submission

You will submit this assignment in two parts:

Draft– A draft will be submitted to our class Google Drive folder. Please be sure you have submitted your document in the correct place. You will then receive feedback from members of our cohort.  

Final– Please submit the final as a blog post on your WordPress site.

Grading Criteria

This assignment will be graded according to the following criteria:

  • How well the requirements for each document are followed
  • How effective each document is in accomplishing the task involved
  • How well the audience is considered
  • Correct document format
  • The mechanical and grammatical correctness of each letter
  • Originality and creativity applied in completing the assignment
