Watercraft’s

Author: Damaris Li

Reading the examples for this week’s assignment I became curios about watercraft’s. Couple days ago at the Business Convention of the Alaska Chambers I met the director for Development from Vigor. Vigor is the leading provider of shipbuilding, ship repair and complex fabrication in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. He showed me couple pictures of the ship yard in Ketchikan . With this assignment I decided to analyze their webpage and two more providers from the angle of a writer.

Opening the website https://vigor.net/about the companies name and Logo is very clear to see in the left corner of the page. This repeats on every single webpage. Underneath is the clear and distinct menu with six pages. The reader will find every important information about the company and what they offer on the different sides. The text is short and simple, and easy to understand. Graphics and pictures bring a bit color on the pages. A search engine is included within the website. The visitor can also go to the Facebook page, twitter and linked page with a click. The webpage is in English and no other languages are offered. I did not find any text-to-speech software, or sort of tools for the hearing or mobility-impaired visitors. The site is clearly representing an industrial ship yard that build everything from 19′ work-boats to nearly 500’ barges and anything in between.

My next choice is a watercraft that hobby sailor would by. The company Alerion Yachts (https://alerionyachts.com/ ) offers high-end sailing yachts for private people. The colors reflect the blue of the water, the white of the sail and warm brown-gold for the wood of the boats. Several embedded videos awaken the desire to sail away on one of the beautiful manufactured boats. Again, the company name and logo stands clearly out on the top of the left corner. To the right the Motto: Sailing. Pure and simple. Underneath the phone number and email address. The menu with eight different pages organizes the given information. The text is short and simple. Every model is described with technical details, drawing and a photo gallery. Satisfied customers tell the reader about their experience with the product. The webpage is in English and no other languages are offered. I did not find any text-to-speech software, or sort of tools for the hearing or mobility-impaired visitors. This site is for passionate sailors or people who want become sailors in the private sector.

My third choice is a company from Germany: Alpha Marine Group GmbH (https://www.performance-marine.de/index.php?id=479 ). They produce and sell high-speed or racing boats. The structure of their website differs in many aspects from the both US websites. The main mask of the website is very small and therefore the print is not easy to read. Speed boats are a symbol of power, adventure and danger. That feeling is reflecting in the chosen color choice of the website. The pages have a black background with white print. The pictures of the speeding boats are boosting in color and draw the readers focus on them. I am so hooked to try them out next time I visit Germany! The menu is a line in the middle of the website with eleven pages. The text on the pages is very short and the big pictures above the menu are the main focus. In difference to the two US webpages, the German webpage offers different language options: German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Netherlands, and Danish. I did not find any text-to-speech software, or sort of tools for the hearing or mobility-impaired visitors. This site is for admirer of adrenaline kicks.
